Boys Before Flowers – Episode 24: The Aftermath

with 6 comments

It’s amazing!! Even after the show is officially wrapped the cast of BBF is still the talk of the town. Granted it’s only been a week since the last episode but the hype for the show is higher now than it was when it was actually on the air. I never thought that was possible but apparently it is. I’m glad the cast will finally get some semblance of rest now that the show is over. Although, I already read that two of the cast members fainted: Hyun Joong and Kim Joon. Not to be insensitive but hearing this about Hyun Joong was not exactly a shocker to me. Did you see how much weight he was losing?! Now, the news about Kim Joon surprised me. Not just because he seemed like someone who was handling it better than the other cast members (disregarding the minor car accident) but also because…….he wasn’t exactly in as many scenes as the other members was he? Even then he was usually confined to a few lines that were composed of questions or displays of his “English speaking abilities tendencies”. I’m not trying to downplay his role in the show because I do love his character but, dude, really?

And while I know not many of you leave comments (for those of you that do, you rock my socks off!! Yes, I just said that.) the blog stats show that many of you are still checking in and I am more than appreciative of it. Again, sorry for the delay. Hopefully Cinderella Man aka SeoulFire’s next feature will be delay free. I would usually follow this statement up with “Yeah, right” but the odds of that happening are better considering the lack of a job at this point and time. Anyhoo, here’s the Aftermath.

Who would’ve thought that Yi Jung would have been the one to commence a conversation about himself and Ga Eul? I think this shows real growth. And then he lets her walk away after she informs him that she will stop pursuing him. Oh, Yi Jung. One step forward, twenty steps back.

It feels so good to have Kim Hyun Joo’s Jun Hee in the house on a  long term basis. While seeing her play the badass sister that Jun Hee is I prefer to have her showing the ever improving acting chops that she has displayed in previous works. While it wasn’t a huge hit like BBF, I personally enjoyed “In-Soon is Pretty” and was excited when I found she was playing this character. While having to play a badass sister may not be the hardest job in the acting world (or maybe it is. I’m, honestly, making assumptions on this one. Which is all I can do considering my “vast” acting experience as noted in a previous post.) but having to play a member of family in where your little brother has reached his breaking point (complete with starvation and run ins with the law) and a mother who hid the fact that your father is in a coma by telling you that he was dead must be a pretty daunting role to take on. She’s basically become the only sane person in her family. I wonder what that’s like.

The worst family reunion EVER!!!

The worst family reunion EVER!!!

If you’ve been following SeoulFire for a while you’ll know that I try very hard to look at all angles of each character. Although, with Mama Kang I am at a loss. All of the conniving things she does is simply for her pride. That’s it. No other reason. She doesn’t care that the people she is plotting against just happen to be her own children!! And where does that leave the children? You can’t disown your own parents. Well, you can but I don’t know many people that have turned out 100% healthy afterwards. Look at Macaulay Culkin.

So while Joon Pyo is seeing the body of a father who should be a ghost…..

24-1024-11

Ji Hoo is having trouble with seeing the ghost of Jan Di past. One appears and disappears right next to him….

24-12While one shows up on the evening news. Hey wait a minute!!

24-13Just one question: What kind of local news do they have exactly in the BBF world? Every news channel I’ve ever watched has claimed to deliver full coverage but this news channel means FULL COVERAGE.

24-14What?! Joon Pyo actually said something back to his mother. I in no way condone children talking back to their parents but there are times when I find it acceptable. The time where you find out the full extent of your mother’s deceitfulness against you and everyone you love would be the time.

24-1524-16

I wanted to be angry with Joon Pyo when he refused to see not only his father but Ji Hoo’s invitation to go see Jan Di but I understood where he was coming from. He is at the point where so many of us have been before. As we get older there are many things we realize. Unfortunately, one of those things causes us to sit down, look deep within ourselves, and finally exclaim, “Wow. My family is really screwed up!” That’s the point that Joon Pyo has come to. It can make you feel like a large facet of your life has been a lie. I appreciate that while there is still anger there with Jan Di for leaving he is mostly keeping his distance because he can’t stand to bring her into the craziness of his family. That’s sweet and all but I think he should take Won Bin’s advice and give her the benefit of the doubt. Joon Pyo seems to forget the crap she’s had to endure just for being associated with him: harassment by an entire school, kidnappings, his mother, her mother, and an on-again-off-again relationship to name a few. I think she can handle a mixed up family, Joon Pyo.

24-1724-18

So, of course, Jan Di’s mother’s excessive claim that Jan Di is the “future wife of Joon Pyo” backfires on them (surprise, surprise) and the town wants their money back. And while they were outraged by the fact that Joon Pyo had another fiancee as reported by a newspaper they found (talk about snail mail, right?) Jan Di still couldn’t tell them that they were wrong because she is in actuality not with him anymore. But of course who comes to save the day? That’s right. Ji Hoo sunbae. Is anyone else tired of hearing the word “Sunbae” come out of Jan Di’s mouth? Every time he shows up she’s always surprised and the first words out of her mouth is “Sunbae”. It’s a bit redundant. I believe this is the writers’ way of reminding us that while they have grown very close over this time their relationship is still rather formal. Technically, Jan Di should still call Joon Pyo “sunbae” since he is her elder but because they have a more relaxed relationship that formality was ignored ages ago. Yet another reason I am forever a JoonDi devotee.

I never noticed this before but do you notice the production has a tendency to give Ji Hoo a rather sacrosanct effect when he shows up? Just look at this scene where he shows up in front of the villagers. They treat him like he’s the second coming. He always shows up in white and his white shoes seemed to blend with concrete so it almost looks like he’s floating. It feels rather…..ridiculous sometimes.

24-19

As Ji Hoo “blesses” the villagers with his presence, a rather ominous figure watches from afar (Note:We saw him earlier but I didn’t want to mention him until he actually effected the plot. This would be the time to mention him). Of course, he’s out for revenge and, of course, he’s looking for Joon Pyo (well, not necessarily Joon Pyo but some way to get back at Shinhwa as a whole. Joon Pyo seemed to fit the bill.) I’ve noticed that Joon Pyo is like Angela Lansbury’s Jessica Fletcher from “Murder She Wrote”: Knowing her meant your lifespan was reduced significantly.

24-20124-21

Big props go out to Jan Di in this scene. I said it once and I’ll say it again, in another dimension, if things were slightly different, Ji Hoo would be a huge rival to Joon Pyo. Considering the state of things Jan Di could have accepted Ji Hoo’s proposal and no one would have blamed her. Except me. I would have blamed her profusely for giving up so easily but, lucky for her, she doesn’t have that problem. Double props to Joon Pyo for showing up even if it was from afar. Even if it was in a fairly bright car. Not exactly conspicuous on your part, Joon Pyo. He’s like David Starsky from “Starsky & Hutch”. They were supposed to be undercover cops but they rode around in this bright, almost offensive red Ford Torrino that was always shined up. I guess no one cares as long as it looks good on television.

Everyone congregates at the hospital as soon as they hear the news about Joon Pyo. Even his mother who hears the news, where else, but on the news (of course). Jun Hee kicks ass again by asking her mother if she knows anything about her own son and, of course, she has no answer for her. When everyone else know your son children better than you do there’s really no way to defend that.

24-3024-3124-33

24-32

Remember how I mentioned that the writer’s more than likely give Mama Kang the chance to redeem herself? Well, I think it’s fair to say that chance has arrived. Even though she did not stick around to see Joon Pyo rolled out of surgery like the rest of the characters, scenes like this make it slightly easier to forgive her….

24-3424-35

KDramas usually go out of their way to drive home the mantra “Don’t have any regrets” which I’m sure Mama Kang has many of those. I must admit they are pretty successful most of the time. I always finish a KDrama the same way I leave church every Sunday: inspired, optimistic, and ready to love my fellow man. Then I leave the parking lot and cuss out the guy that cuts me off on my way home. This is similar to the effect KDramas have on me.

Another clue we are getting towards the end of a series? A LOT OF TEARS!! Hey, it wouldn’t be a KDrama if they didn’t make that last ditch attempt at pulling at the heartstrings would it? Am I the only one who was begging for this to be another sick joke by F4? I knew it wasn’t but I can dream, can’t I? What wasn’t a joke was that Joon Pyo made what he thought would be his last request that Ji Hoo would be the one to be with Jan Di in his absence. I know he’s said it before but for some reason this was more romantic than anything he’s ever done in the entire series. Maybe you disagree. Maybe I have a really dark view on romance. Who knows.

24-42

Back on Jan Di’s home front her family has been able to return to their home with her father to follow. This is simply the writer’s way to wrap up the family side of things so that we can get back to the couples. At least they know where the show’s priorities should be.

24-4324-44

24-4524-46

And here we are at the dreaded amnesia arc. I won’t say that I hate the amnesia arc but when you have suffered through an entire season of the amnesia arc **cough**METEOR GARDEN II**cough** you have a long sustaining prejudice against it. Plus don’t they think we’ve been through enough? An arc featuring the JoonDi couple finding their way back to each other would have been enough drama to carry us to the end. Simplicity can take us so far but not as as far an amnesia arc does wouldn’t you say?

My theory (and I always have a theory) is that before Joon Pyo passed out from the car accident he not only accepted that he would no longer be around but that he would have to relinquish Jan Di to Ji Hoo in order for her to be safe. But that’s just a theory. Any suggestions? Then the comment cellar is for you.

24-4724-48

The only comfort I find in the introduction of this character is that 1) Joon Pyo is simply “connecting” with her because she is slightly similar to Jan Di and 2) She doesn’t have enough time to be huge problem like, oh, Jae Kyung. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable is that we are right back to the Joon Pyo we met at the beginning of the series: rude, unpleasant, and an all around grandiloquent countenance about him. Awesome.

24-4924-50

24-5124-52

What’s more funny in Jan Di and F3’s attempt to restore Joon Pyo’s memory? The fact that they thought that by reenacting these scenes everything would come back to him or the hilarious way Joon Pyo looked at Jan Di after each attempt? It’s obvious he really does think she’s crazy but who wouldn’t if they were in his state of mind?

24-53Reason #452 I LOVE Ji Hoo: If he doesn’t like you, he doesn’t like you. The great thing about Ji Hoo is that he has never felt the need to put up any pretenses with anyone or anything. He sees beyond the surface and makes a decision about someone then and there. That’s one thing I do regret about Ji Hoo never having a chance with Jan Di. Ji Hoo liking someone as much as he likes Jan Di is as common as Haley’s comet. The only difference is that even when he has to let go of “his comet” the love never fades. He is still appearing to save the day when the one appointed to due so is “out of commission”. And that makes Reason #452 I Love Ji Hoo also Reason # 749 I can’t hate Ji Hoo no matter how much I try.

24-5424-5524-56

Big props to Ji Hoo for losing it on Joon Pyo and his acceptance of this random girl pairing herself with him right in front of Jan Di. “Hospital Couple”? I’m sorry, who are you?! No one knows who you are and you just put your claim on Joon Pyo knowing he’s in a “fragile” state. I try not to get too upset while watching this show because it is JUST A SHOW. Unfortunately it becomes difficult not to when you feel like you’ve invested so much into the particular show you’re watching: time, some money (I did buy something that was “subtly” featured on the show while I was in California. I won’t tell you what it is but I can tell you it will probably be collecting dust in the next few months here), and large amounts of my sanity in some cases (Example: Episodes 13-Present).

Next Aftermath is the last Aftermath for this show. Thank God. I’m sure many bloggers would agree with me on that.

Don’t get me wrong I had a great time “conversing” with you guys but trying to keep up with a high profile show like this one is exhausting. Not just because it seems like everyone was writing about the same show (and faster)  but also because this was my first attempt at actually documenting my thoughts on the show as it aired. You guys kept me going so please keep stopping by. See you on the next Aftermath!!

Boys Before Flowers – Episode 21: The Aftermath

with 2 comments

You: “Milagirll, where the heck is the Aftermath?! I thought you were working on this late posts thing!!”

Me: “I know!! I’m sorry. And I am. The thing is….”

I think it’s only appropriate to start this post with many, MANY apologies. I am actually leaving for a cruise next week and decided to wait until the last minute to start shopping for all the things I might need on this long awaited sea excursion. Although, the fact that it has delayed my weekly BBF activities has managed to cause a rather lack lustered view on it. It would amaze you at how exhausting it is to prepare to go somewhere to relax. So…. sorry and jwe-song-hahm nida. That being said, I now return you to your (slightly) regularly sceduled “Aftermath”.

We’re almost there my wonderful BBF fans/obsessors!! Are you at “the point of no return yet”? Oh, you know. It’s the feeling where the storyline is in it’s last push but you’re desperate for it to take that huge leap off the edge. You want to back away from it because you feel like you can’t take it anymore but you know you can’t because you’ve come so far and you want to know what happens. It provides a mixture of desperation, hope, and overwhelming frustration. It’s the same reaction you have when you see Spencer and Heidi from “The Hills”. Well, except maybe hope.

But this is the life we have chosen as KDrama fans and we must endure it if only to reap the benefits. Many forums have shown people’s dislike for this episode and, unfortunately, I have to agree with them. The episode itself was wonderfully written, the cast did a great job (of course), and the production was (basically) flawless but I felt largely unsatisfied. I expect that from Monday episodes but a Tuesday episode too?! It’s almost too much to bear!

In order to cut down on time some of the screencaps will feature wonderful subs provided by Aja-aja and knitoe. Thanks!!

21-3021-3121-11

It’s so refreshing to finally have someone who tells Mama Kang what will happen instead of the contrary. It’s doubly refreshing to have another advocate for Jan Di in the Shinhwa household. What’s not so refreshing is the fact that Mama Kang is back in town. For the “illustrious” Shinhwa president that she is she sure has an unseemly amount of time to control her children’s love lives.

21-21

If you have been following the Aftermaths then you know by now that I haven’t been able to muster up the dislike/hatred many JoonDi shippers have voiced. I found myself starting to agree with the cyber public opinion in this episode but not for the same reasons that many have been hating her for. I’m rather annoyed at Jae Kyung’s purposeful interruption in the love story between Jan Di and Joon Pyo. It was different when she didn’t know their history together but now that she does know but refuses to back away makes her suddenly very annoying to me. It’s the same as a woman who is having an affair with a man who she knows is married. I can forgive obliviousness, I can’t forgive inconsideration/selfishness. No matter how nicely it’s spoken.

21-321-421-32

What’s worse than not getting the one you love? Finding out your older brother got her instead. The same older brother who left you to deal with a pervert of a dad and a suicidal mother. Britney Spears and her many issues have NOTHING on a Korean drama character.

21-5So last I checked at this point Jae Kyung has acknowledged that she knows about Jan Di and Joon Pyo but will not back off. She has moved into the Shinhwa mansion (BTW…They’re called hotels, people. Shinhwa owns,oh, hundreds of them!! They do exist so it is not necessary for everyone to move into the mansion.). And now she is flaunting the fact that she is determined to go through with the wedding. If you’re a JoonDi fan like me there is no reason for me to record the many, MANY inappropriate words (or the censored, more tame version of the same words) I was calling her. Let me just say I was VERY annoyed.

21-621-8

21-921-7

I’m happy to see that Ji Hoo and his grandfather are on the way to reconciliation. I’m sure many Jan Di/Ji Hoo fans are disappointed at seeing the real meaning behind the monk’s premonition that Jan Di “will give him a family.” Although, the writers were nice (?) enough to give you guys another scene in where they decided to give you another dose of false hope. I can guarantee that the ring will show up again and that it will have something to do with Jan Di. I can also guarantee that even at that point nothing will stem from it.

I’m debating if I should point out  Hyun Joong’s painful breakdown scene. I say painful not just because it was very emotional but because it literally looked painful. And yet, through all that “pain”, no tears were to be found. I think Kim Bum has got everyone beat in the crying game. Lee Min Ho comes in a close second. Note to Hyun Joong: If you want to be in the Korean drama aristocracy, you’ve gotta learn how to cry convincingly.

21-1021-112

What did I say about earlier about false hope? Here’s another dose of it and BBF writers are the dealers. Take advantage of it now Jan Di/Ji Hoo shippers, supplies are running low.

21-1221-13

Talk about an iconic picture. The director knows how to give the audience what they want. Too bad the wind was so strong that it looked like they were all about to fall over the railing. And lately Hyun Joong looks like he doesn’t need any help in the possibility of flying away. It’s also too bad that this scene was the day before the actual wedding. Which will mean I will have that in the back of my mind everytime I see this scene. I’ll find a way to get past it but I’d rather not know it was a possibility at the time. I think a confirmed JoonDi wedding might cancel it out for me, BBF writers. Feel free to type “>>” in the comment cellar if that’s a yes. I would give you a signal if that’s a no but that answer is just not acceptable at this stage in the game.

21-14I measured the amount of compassion I felt for Jae Kyung in this scene with the amount of tears Hyun Joong has actually been able to produce on the show. You do the math.

21-1521-16

The director really took advantage of the scenery in their location and the show is the better for it. Of course, I wonder if the fact that Yi Jung and Ga Eul’s scene was set in a field of bright flowers and Ji Hoo and Jan Di’s scene in the field of neutral colored growth was for aesthetic purposes or a type of symbolism for the direction of each couple. Or maybe I’ve developed a slight case of “Soompi syndrome” in where I write a thesis on the smallest, most inconsequential instances in the show. If this happens to be the case I will correct it posthaste. Nothing that a shot of…..anything can’t handle.

21-17There is a sick kind of irony in the fact that Jae Kyung loves Joon Pyo for the way he loves Jan Di. Nevertheless it’s understandable because his love is the love that all little girls dream about and also the love that out favorite love story fed us. Although, we that dream about his love and consume those love stories know that to try to knowingly interfere or transpose that love is only asking for a lifetime of misery. Most of the time I would revel in that particular character’s subsequent “life of misery” but Jae Kyung is still a likeable character. Honestly, I wish she would move onto Won Bin. I’m loving him more and more and his character never gets any real spotlight. Also, she’s pretty tough. I think she could have a future as a mafia prince’s woman. She may have a problem with his affinity for slutty women. And her family may have a problem with gang affiliated son-in-laws.

21-1821-1921-20

We all saw this coming eventually, didn’t we? I just wasn’t expecting Joon Pyo to ask Ji Hoo to punch him. I also wasn’t expecting Ji Hoo to do it so obligingly. Something tells me he enjoyed just a little.

21-21121-2221-23

You know how they say, “Desperation is the worst scent”? Well, they weren’t lying. Go on down to your local bar on a Saturday night for proof. Better yet just look at this scene. This whole arc is an exercise in humility for Joon Pyo and it’s just as a painful for me as it is for him. That being said, let’s move on quickly. Before the “My allergies are messing with me” excuse won’t suffice for the tears that well up after seeing this scene.

Proof of a doomed wedding: While the bride is waiting…..

21-24….the groom is asking one of his groomsmen to break his arm.

21-2521-271

WHAT?! Why me?! Is this because of the whole mafia thing? Becasue I though we had moved past this.

WHAT?! Why me?! Is this because of the whole mafia thing? Because I though we had moved past this.

21-2821-29

And here comes Jan Di and her every present morality to save the day…..or at least his arm.

I appreciate Jan Di’s affection for dealing with (most) things head on. It gives the love story a sense of pureness in that no one is tricked or blindsided in the path these characters take to finally be together. Although, there are just times that I wish Jan Di would have an all out duel with whoever is blocking their love that particular week. Just once I’d love to see Jan Di reach across whatever space is between herself and Mama Kang just to show her how much she doesn’t plan on running anywhere no matter how hard she tries. In my heart of hearts, I know this won’t happen but dreaming never hurt anyone. Except maybe this dog.

Boys Before Flowers – Episode 14: The Aftermath

with 2 comments

I knew I loved Boys Before Flowers but I didn’t realize I LOVED Boys Before Flowers. Not only do I get overly emotional while watching episodes, like this one, but the theme songs have encroached themselves in my everyday conversations. Example: Today the owners of the building I work in decided to have their monthly fire drill. As we stood outside in the 40 degree (!) weather, one of my co-workers joked that we should be each other’s “fire buddy”, just like the olden days (olden days being elementary school circa 1994). Unfortunately, she uttered the three words that should never be said in front of a BBF fan, “Stand by me.” And, of course, the next thing I knew I blurted out, “Stand by me nal parabwajwo, Ajik saranguel morujiman….” You can imagine the blank stare I received. Oh well. So goes the life of a BBF fan.  (Romanization of Shinee’s “Stand by Me” courtesy of 6lyrics.com. Thanks!!!)

14-214-31

What?! Come again. Who's your life saver?! That's hurts Jan Di. That really hurts.

                                           14-4

I don’t know about you but seeing Goo Joon Pyo turn into “Automaton Goo Joon Pyo” feels more than against the grain. It feels like everything you’ve known to be true has suddenly become a lie. It’s the equivalent of the dog, man’s best friend, that you’ve had since he was puppy suddenly decided to adopt another owner. It’s yin without the yang. Superman without Lois. Joon Pyo without the perm.

If you really think about it, Goo Joon Pyo is in the same situation that Geum Jan Di found herself in a few episodes ago where an unfair and cruel choice had to be made: preserve your love or preserve your family. The only difference is that Joon Pyo’s dilemma is on a much larger scale. While nothing is more important than your own family, if his family fails then thousands of families will perish with them.

14-614-5

14-72

So turns out Goo Joon Pyo has stalking tendencies as well when it comes to Geum Jan Di. And it so sweet!!!

14-8

You've learned well, Joon Pyo grasshopper.

14-14F4.....Give peace a chance, shall we?F4….let’s give peace a chance, shall we?
The worst dubbing ever!!!

The worst dubbing ever!!!!!!

Shhhh....as long as we wear these masks they can't find us.

Shhhh....as long as we wear these masks they can't find us.

This was the weirdest game of hide and seek I have ever witnessed. Not only was it weird but it ended on a rather sad note. No game of hide and seek should end in tears. Awww….poor Geum Jan Di.

14-21114-19

This was the only time in BBF history I actually dreaded a Joon Pyo/Jan Di moment. I usually live for these moments but knowing that Joon Pyo was going to break ties with her made me want to turn this episode off and come back later when I was more mentally prepared. Then I realized that would only postpone the inevitable. Plus missing the heartbreak Koo Hye Sun put into her character and the restrained pain Lee Min Ho displayed in his was too good to pull away from.

14-2214-23

I guess the stalking has become a way of life on BBF. Even Goo Joon Pyo’s mother has joined in. So we come to find that Joon Pyo’s mother is actually crazier than we thought. Her attempt to control her son has reached blackmail status. Which would explain the complete 180 degree turn on Goo Joon Pyo’s behalf. Which would explain the breakup between Joon Pyo and Jan Di. Which would explain the huge smile on my face because we now know he still loves her.

While I am glad his body has not been taken over by aliens, which was my first theory j/k, this does set us up for one of the most nerve racking plot devices on the planet. We now know something we wished F4 and Jan Di knew but because they are not us (the audience) they won’t find out until later. Any Creative Writing 101 class will tell you this is called dramatic irony. I call it a writer’s sick idea of a joke.

14-2514-24

This scene was truly heartbreaking but not necessarily for the reasons you might think. Finding out Joon Pyo’s mother would sink this low to maintain some control over her son was surprising and the apathy she displayed as he spoke to her was mind-boggling. Although the only thing that broke my heart the most was the pure helplessness Joon Pyo exhibited in that momentthis episode which is disarming for me. Especially since this was the first time since the last episode where we saw any emotion from him. We are so accustomed to Joon Pyo being the person who has this simple outlook on life. Everything seems easily fixed when dealing with Joon Pyo so to find him in this state feels like an alternate universe altogether. And I gotta say I am not dealing with it well!!

14-27

As of this moment I am announcing a major change of heart involving these two characters and the relationship they have developed. I used to be offended at the writers’ attempt to hawk the aesthetically pleasing rapport these two characters have but I have realized that the scenes between these two are essential to the story. I think those of us that were on the Hana Yori Dango bandwagon before this series started have a tendency to forget that Domyouji Tsukasa’s character made the decision to pursue Makino Tsukushi pretty quickly in the series. So early that the time most romances take to convince the audience that these two characters are perfect for each other felt condensed. This was not only due to the fact that Domyoji was a character that made decisions easily (which caused triumphs and disasters) but, also, because Hana Yori Dango’s creater decided to make Domyoji the main love interest after the manga began.

While it is important that the main couple believes they are each other’s soulmate we have to believe it too. The fact that Jan Di can go head to head with the once unconquerable Joon Pyo and she can do a mean roundhouse kick, a stable relationship that does not make. For us to simply accept that these two characters are meant to be together due to some memorable scenes would not make this series as a whole unforgettable. We all have an attachment to the kind of love that develops between them through the multiple hardships they endure which keeps us coming back. In other words, we have love for their love.

The time she spends with Yoon Ji Hoo provides us with an insight  into who she is. It also provides us with a kind of comfort in knowing she will provide the humanity Joon Pyo is lacking due to the deficient human interaction he’s experienced. I know he thinks he is in love with Jan Di but really he loves the strength he is experiencing as he tries to protect her. He has a lot of baggage and for him to move on with his life he to has sort through it all. Somehow Jan Di has become the catalyst  for this occurrence. I would be nervous about the time they spend together but considering that for every longing glance he sends Jan Di’s way she sends a rather forced, cordial, and fond glance towards him I think we’re safe for now.

What did you think I was gonna say up there? That I’m now a Ji Hoo/Jan Di fan now?! LOL!!!!!! Any Psych 101 class would call that decidedly CRAZY!!!!

Hmmmm....Why does this guy look so familiar?Episode 13

So it looks like we are finally getting some not so subtle clues as to who this old man is and there is a good chance he is related to a member of F4…..

Now everyone please come together and give your best variety show audience, “Oooooooo….”

Really, you two. I'm sure they have another pair somewhere in the store.

Honestly, Goo Joon Pyo, you should've seen this coming.

Honestly, Goo Joon Pyo, you should've seen this coming.

I know I should hate her but I just can’t. She’s the most fun we’ve had in the last two episodes and who am I to discredit that. The only problem I find with her is the fact that she will be that proverbial wrench I keep mentioning. A fun and amusing wrench.

This was a bit much.....but this is Boys Before Flowers, right?

Why is this chase scene ending in an overly dramatic dipping? Who knows...but what else would we expect from BBF, right?

***SOBS*** He loves her so much…….but he loves his father too….. but he has to run the company….but his mom is conniving and evil…..ARGH!!! Such a sorted state of affairs.  BTW……Lee Min Ho? DOMINATED this scene!!! LEE MIN HO, HWAITING!!!!

14-46Let me take the mystery out of this one, he's gay.

Let me take the mystery out of this one. He’s gay. That’s just my opinion though. Not there’s anything wrong with that and I am not simply going off his flamboyant nature that is usually associated with homosexuality. I am simply going off the fact that he is uncomfortably attached to Yoon Ji Hoo. The guys I’ve know in my short lifetime will freely tell me, without any hesitation, that a man who is attached to another man in that way is interested in more than a friendship. Thankfully his attachment brings some funny scenes. Check out this post about the character. Thanks Allkpop.com!!!

Although, for the sake of keeping the show minimally controversial as they can the writers will probably give another reasoning for the character’s attachment. Probably involving Ji Hoo saving him from some life threatening situation or from life crippling loneliness. The show is already in trouble for the violence they’ve displayed (Can you say TRUMPED UP ACCUSATIONS?) I’m sure they don’t want to rock the boat too much.

Anxiously awaiting episode 15. Actually, more excited for episode 16 because that’s where the good stuff happens, as we well know by now.

Don’t you just love NGs? They always show them at the end of a show that has gotten popular just to placate fans and their thirst for every detail of their beloved show. While I’m sure NGs are frowned upon while making the show I really wish there were more. Oh well. I guess we’ll have to wait for the montage they include on the special features located on the DVD. Which I will be buying just to show my unrelenting support of BBF and the Asian industry that birthed it.

Things that AMAZE me

without comments

  1. Those commercials that make the horrible seem like the best thing in the entire world. I recently saw some cheap infomercial about filing for bankruptcy. I wish I could show you the stupidity I saw in this thing. It literally made bankruptcy seem like the best decision you could ever make. In case you didn’t know already, bankruptcy is bad. Really bad. Most people try everything to avoid it and for good reason. It was definitely on the same pitiful level as those genital herpes commercials where they try to make it seem like it’s great to live with genital herpes. I’ve never had it but…. I’m pretty sure it’s good to avoid it just like bankruptcy. Or, you know, the plague!!
  2. JUNO WON AN OSCAR FOR BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY!!!!! And this is not a case of sarcastic amazement, I really am excited about the situation. It was kinda a no brainer but you never know.
  3. O!!! And I luv that Once won Best Original Song for “Falling Slowly”. If you haven’t seen this movie then you’re so not cool and no one likes you. It’s amazing. The soundtrack is too.
